The Delhi Cabinet on 3 July 2013 decided to relax the eligibility
criteria to cover two lakh vulnerable families under the Annashree
scheme. As per new criteria for Annashree scheme, any household whose
head has been a resident of Delhi for at least three years and the
annual family income is not more than 1 lakh rupees is eligible for
benefit under the scheme.
Delhi has been fixed as 1 January 2010 was fixed as the cut-off date
for residing in Delhi. The earlier cut-off date was 1 April 2008. The
family, however, should not be getting benefits under the below poverty
line (BPL) and Antodaya scheme. This is the basic criteria to be
eligible under Annashree scheme. Moreover, the household should not be
getting food at subsidized rate under any other scheme.
Launched in 2012, the Delhi government provides a cash subsidy of 600
rupees a month to approximately one lakh households. The money is
transferred to the bank account of the leading female member of the
family. The Samajik Suvidha Sangam conducted a survey to identify the
families.
