The International Air Transport Association (IATA) on 4 June 2013
announced that it has recorded a major dip in air accidents with a huge
decline in accident rate worldwide. IATA asked all the airlines across
the world to become a part of the continuous safety monitoring system.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the three-day annual
general meeting.
As per the records in 2012, western-built jet hull loss rate was 0.20 per million sectors flown was recorded for the carriers on the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registry and IATA member airline accident rate was 0.00. This is 77% improvement in the accident rate over the last 10 years. As per the latest data, the total rate of accident of IOSA-registered airlines across the world was 4.3 times better than the rate of non-IOSA carriers.
IATA’s six point safety program encompasses safety data management and analysis, flying operations, maintenance operations, safety management systems, infrastructure safety and safety auditing (IOSA/ISAGO).
