Statue of Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug Unveiled at New Delhi


Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on 19 August 2013 unveiled the statue of Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug at New Delhi.

Dr. Norman Borlaug contributed towards wheat production in India. Dr. Borlaug addressed the challenges as well as complexities of the food requirements of the world. He dedicated his life towards agricultural development. 

The statue was unveiled at the 50th anniversary of Dr. Borlaug’s introduction of high-yielding wheat varieties to India. The function to commemorate 50th anniversary of Dr. Borlaug’s introduction of high-yielding wheat varieties to India was organised jointly by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI).

About Norman Ernest Borlaug

• Norman Ernest Borlaug was born on 25 March 1914. 
• He was an American agronomist, humanitarian and Nobel laureate who is called the Father of Green Revolution. 
• He was honoured with a range of laurels such as the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honor, the Nobel Peace Prize, the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
• He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his contributions towards word food supply.
