First vessel carrying LNG from Qatar reached Kochi Port


he first cargo vessel carrying liquefied gas from RasGas in Qatar arrived at the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal at Puthuvype near south Indian port city of Kochi on 20 August 2013. The vessel Wilenergy carrying around one lakh cubic metres of LNG.

The vessel has arrived in accordance with the supply arrangement as per an agreement signed between Petronet LNG Limited and RasGas, the natural gas supplier based in Qatar.
 
The natual gas, which is in liquefied state, at a temperature of about minus 160 degree Celsius, will be converted into gas at the terminal and regasified LNG will be supplied to end-users.
 
In the initial stage Petronet LNG will supply gas to Bharat Petroleum's Kochi refinery and Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT).
