Visa on Arrival Scheme registered 22.9 % Growth in June 2013

As per the latest data released by Union Tourism Ministry, Visa on Arrival Scheme registered a growth of 22.9 percent in June 2013 as compared to the same month data of June 2012. In June 2013 the number of foreign tourists, who availed the facilities of the scheme were 1062, whereas, in June 2012, the number was 864 passengers.

The residents of Japan availed the maximum number of visa on arrival facility and were followed by Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Singapore. But the scheme was able to pull just three tourists from Luxembourg, four from Cambodia and five from Laos.

The Visa on Arrival Scheme was launched for citizens of five counties namely Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore in 2010 by Government of India. In January 2011, the scheme was extended for the citizens of six more countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar. The facility was launched for people from these counties visiting India with the purpose of Tourism.
