Railway Revenue Earnings increased by 11.93 Percent during April - June 2013

The Union Ministry of Railways on 8 July 2013 released a report on revenue earnings of Indian Railways from 1 April to 30 June 2013. As per the released report, the total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis registered an increase of 11.93 percent from 1 April to 30 June 2013 as compared to the same period of 2012, which was 33497.09 crore rupees, when compared to Rs. 29926.67 crore rupees, respectively.

During the same period, the total goods earnings of Railways registered a growth of 9.35 percent to 23193.98 crore rupees in 2013 from 21211.41 crore rupees. The Passenger Revenue earnings registered a growth of 16.92 percent with 8724.66 crore rupees in 2013 compared to 7462.17 crore rupees during the same period in 2012.

The revenue earnings increased by 36.21 percent via other coaching that amounted to 1014.36 crore rupees during April - June 2013 when compared to 744.73 crore rupees, during April – June 2012.

The passenger booking witnessed a slight decline of 0.69 percent with total booking of 2100.20 million passengers during 1 April– 30 June 2013 compared to 2114.69 million passengers during the same period in 2012. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-June 2013 were 1100.88 million and 999.32 million during April to June 2013, as compared to 1074.77 million and 1039.92 million during the same period in 2012. Thus the passenger booking in suburban area witnessed an increase of 2.43 per cent whereas the same decreased by 3.90 percent in non-suburban areas.
