Lanco Resources Australia got the conditional approval from the
Environmental Protection Authority of Western Australia in order to
develop the coal handling berth at the Bunbury port. This coal handling
berth is the part of Griffin Coal mine project initiative of Lanco
Resources Australia, which is a subsidiary of diversified Lanco
Infratech Ltd.
The project involves loading facility along with coal storage in order to export 15 million tonnes of coal per annum from the Bunbury Port. The source of coal will be proposed expansion of the Griffin Coal mine project in the Collie Basin. The activities in this section will involve development of the onshore coal storage, berth as well as other related infrastructure. It was also proposed that the storage of coal will take place in big sheds in order to control the dust. The coal will be transferred to ships through the enclosed conveyors.
This proposal is dependent on the Bunbury Port Authority's Inner Harbour structure plan. The Bunbury Port Authority's Inner Harbour structure plan is assessed separately by authorities. The proposal for development of the infrastructure is still under assessment in order to study the impact on the various environmental factors. Lanco Resources Australia was asked to modify a few proposals in order to fulfill the objectives of the authorities in order to protect the environment.
Lanco Resources Australia had acquired Griffin Coal in 2011. At present, it is in the process of enhancing production capacity from the mines. It is also waiting for the regulatory clearances in order to swell its operations.
