The Imperial Household Agency of Japan on 9 July 2013 announced that the
Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan will make their visit to
India on 30 November to 6 December 2013. This visit of the Royal Couple
of Japan will be their first visit to India since the Emperor took over
the thrown in 1989. During their stay in India, they will visit Delhi
and Chennai.
Earlier, Japan and India marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2012.
The visit of the royal couple will be a follow-up of Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh visit to Japan from 27 to 30 May 2013 for a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.
Comment: The visit of the Japanese royal couple can be taken as the message of the improving relations of the two countries and the strengthening ties.
