Conceptual Plan to develop New Chandigarh Approved by Government of Punjab

Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal on 5 July 2013 approved the comprehensive conceptual plan to develop New Chandigarh in the Mullanpur area on the outskirts of the city.

The Punjab government aimed to develop New Chandigarh as one of the best planned cities with ultra modern infrastructure to enable it to face the challenges of 21st century while making it an economic hub of South East Asia.

The conceptual plan was prepared by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).The new city is planned in an area of 15272.5 acres in the foothills of Shivaliks, and is supposed to have Eco-City, Medi-City, Education-City and mega projects that would drive the growth of the state to the next path.

The Edu-City, will have reputed international universities and institutes in areas of hospital administration, management courses, computer science and engineering branches, biotechnology, multimedia, pharmaceuticals, tourism and hospitality, industrial design, media and mass communication.

1278 crore rupees for the infrastructure was approved by the Punjab government of the proposed city, out of which 660 crore rupees has been sanctioned for Road Infrastructure to build a world class infrastructure technology in the building of road network.

Around 12 crore Rupees was approved by the government for installation of 10-MGD (million gallons daily) capacity water treatment plants262 crore  Rupees for water supply, sewerage and storm water and drainage water, 40 crore Rupees for 62 MGD sewerage treatment plant and 300 crore Rupees for 220-kV and 66-kV sub-stations, electrification, street lighting and laying of 66 kV underground cable.

The road is set to be completed by 31 March2014, and its two service lanes would be completed by May 2014.
