South Korea on 11 June 2013 called off the high-level talks with
North Korea, as scheduled to begin in Seoul on 12 June 2013. The two
sides had agreed to the two-day talks, expected to focus primarily on
joint economic projects. On the eve of the meeting, the two remained
unable to agree on the composition of their delegations.
The two Koreas had exchanged undisclosed lists of five
representatives, but could not reach a consensus. It was not immediately
clear whether the talks, scheduled to take place at a hotel in Seoul,
had been postponed or cancelled.
The scheduled talks were an opportunity to improve relations after
months of military tensions between the two nations. North Korea
threatened nuclear war while South Korea issued stern warning in
response.
